Material Database
LVA 253.373 UE Wahlfach W24 2.5 ECTS
Teaching: Silke Fischer
Recording, evaluation and digital documentation of a material group/product type/product form relevant to structural engineering. The material database is directly related to the existing collection of hand samples at the department, which is continuously supplemented and expanded.
Expansion of the collection to include future-oriented materials: emerging recyclates, experimental upcycling strategies, NASA technologies …
If certificates and material test sheets are missing, a research-based approach is required. What is a building material made of and where does it come from? What are its properties and what options are there for using it? Critical questions about aesthetic fashions and assessment perspectives are inherent to this. When and where something sustainable is created must be examined. The course offers the opportunity to research and process one or more key materials and their possible use, also on the basis of an (own) small-scale project, e.g. with design-build potential.
