In consideration of the increasing demand for space and the problematic sealing of agricultural land, sustainable concepts for the multiple utilisation of already built-up areas are to be examined. Hybrid strategies are intended to explore constructive and urban typologies that are suitable for offering alternative approaches to current problems.

Specifically, two motorway areas of the A1 in Thalgau and Mondsee are considered, which occupy the high-quality areas of a southern slope in terms of spatial planning and pollute the surrounding area with noise and particulate matter. The municipalities are currently responding to the increasing demand for land by rezoning agricultural land, which is looking for alternatives due to the current results of soil sealing. In Thalgau, federal and state funds were used to implement flood protection in the area of the Fuschler Ache, which has made the neighbouring agricultural land ready for conversion into building land. These dystopian developments allow for alternative approaches in the form of building over the motorway on the southern slope, which need to be tested for their sustainability in terms of the overall environmental impact of the habitat.
