Lecture Series // Graça Correia – Made in Portugal

Graça Correia is an architect and academic whose work bridges architectural practice, research, and teaching. She graduated in Architecture from the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto (FAUP), where she later collaborated with Eduardo Souto de Moura, an experience that deeply shaped her architectural approach, particularly in its rigorous engagement with context, construction, and modern heritage. She holds a PhD from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (Barcelona), with research dedicated to  he work of Ruy Jervis d’Athouguia, contributing decisively to the critical reassessment of  portuguese modern architecture.

An invited researcher at FAUP, where she obtained her National Habilitation in 2022, she is currently an associate professor at FCATI-ULP and has been a visiting professor at several international universities. Her academic and professional work is marked by a  sustained dialogue between theory and practice, reflecting a contemporary interpretation of modern architectural principles that continues to inform both her teaching and design work today.

Metamorphosis: Drawing through tradition – design studio

This studio addresses architecture as a process of transformation rooted in continuity, – without continuity meaning stagnation, but quite the opposite – exploring the concept of Metamorphosis as the reinterpretation of tradition in response to contemporary challenges. For this, the example of the Casa Burguesa do Porto will be very useful to study the traditional construction systems of the housing in Porto.
