HB2 Lecture Series – TU Vienna / Prof. Dietmar Feichtinger
Transformations
The lecture series of the Department of Building Construction and Design focuses on various essential aspects of design:
Orientation is essential for people in new environments and contributes significantly to well-being.
The Swiss-French graphic designer Ruedi Baur shows how signalling influences the perception of buildings. Building complexes such as the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the airport in Vienna, the orientation system of the city of Metz and the extended underground system of the Grand Paris are impressive examples of his work.
Reuse of industrial building ensembles
Jacques Pajot breathes new life into industrial structures. The 104 in Paris is the most striking example: an open meeting place, suitable for events of all kinds – dance, theatre, exhibitions.
Acoustic quality is the top priority for building typologies such as concert halls. But institutions such as schools, universities and swimming pools are also influenced by acoustic comfort in our perception. The numerous buildings realised, including the Beijing Opera House, under the acoustic supervision of Jean-Paul Lamoureux, are impressive examples of how the acoustic treatment of buildings has a significant impact on them.
