Ricardo Carvalho Arquitectos & Associados studio
Ricardo Carvalho Arquitectos & Associados studio was created in 2018 and is based in Lisbon. Ricardo Carvalho, its founder, has a degree in Architecture (FAUTL 1995) and a PhD in Architecture (IST University ofLisbon 2012). The studio was responsible for both public and private work, such as Affordable Housing, Collective Housing, a Museum, a hotel, houses and exhibition design. Ricardo Carvalho is a professor at the Department of Architecture at Autónoma University of Lisbon, Da/UAL, and visiting professor at Mendrisio Academy USI, Switzerland , since 2026. He was a visiting professor at several institutions such as BTU Cottbus, Germany, UNAV University of Navarra, Pamplona, Spain, Carleton University, Canada, IUAV Venice, Italy and Escola da Cidade, S. Paulo, Brazil. He has published several books such as “The Social City” (2016), “Work Situation Process” (2021) and “Architecture Public City” (2024). In 2025 AMAG magazine dedicated a monographic issue to his work. His work has been shown at the RIBA Royal Institute of British Architects, London; LIGA, Mexico City; Ozone gallery, Tokyo, Nipponbashi Gallery, Osaka, MAAT museum, Lisbon and the Venice Architecture Biennale, among others. He was nominated for the EU Mies van der Rohe Architecture Prize in 2015 and 2022 and for the Swiss Architectural Prize in 2020. He was awarded the 2022 AICA Architecture Prize.
A lecture in the lecture series „Made in Portugal“ by the Faculty of Architecture and Planning from the research area Building Construction 2: Building Construction, Construction and Design.
