\nMenos \u00e9 Mais Arquitectos<\/em><\/p>\n

Cristina Guedes (Macau 1964) founded the studio Menos \u00e9 Mais with Francisco Vieira de Campos in 1994 (Oporto Portugal). The ability to do more with less is their greatest asset, seeking to balance the “economy” of means with the “richness\u201d of the materiality and emotional involvement of the users. Their works are pragmatic responses to specific contexts. This is best typified in the Cable Car complex in the Historic Site of Gaia (shown in the 2016 Venice Biennale underlining the question \u201cis it possible to create public space within a private commission?\u201d), and in the Archipelago Contemporary Arts Centre in the Azores island of S. Miguel (shown in the 2018 Venice Biennale” Public Without Rhetoric”).<\/p>\n

CG teaches in parallel with her practice and she is Invited Professor at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto (FAUP); the Faculty of Architecture and Arts of the Lus\u00edada University of Porto (FAAULP). She has previously been a Visiting Professor at the USI – Academy of Architecture in Mendrisio (2018-2022) and a Visiting Professor at the Department of Architecture at Aut\u00f3noma University of Lisbon, Da\/UAL (2002\u20132003).<\/p>\n

CG have been invited to conferences, juries, national and international exhibitions and academic critiques at various faculties such as ETH Zurich, Mackintosh School of Architecture, Trinity College Dublin, among others. and was commissary of Portugal at the IX BIAU New Geographies, at Rosario, Argentina 2014. CG was honoured by the Royal Institute of British Architects by becoming International RIBA Fellows.<\/p>\n

She recently won the AICA 2023 Award (International Association of Art Critics). She was also distinguished with the \u201cWomen in Architecture\u201d award at the 2023 National Architecture Awards \u201cespa\u00e7o\u201d (Casa da Arquitectura, Porto). Previously, she received the Secil Architecture Award in 2020 (Lisbon), ex aequo with Aires Mateus, the AIT Award in 2020 (Frankfurt), the BIGMAT International Award in 2017 (Luxembourg), the FAD Award in 2016 (Barcelona), and the BIAU Architecture Award in 2016 (S\u00e3o Paulo), 2012 (C\u00e1diz), and 2006 (Montevideo).<\/p>\n

Her projects were also nominated for the Mies van der Rohe Prize ( 2019, 2015, 2013, 2009 )<\/p>\n
