Kreta is a neighborhood in Favoriten, situated between Quellenstraße, Absberggasse, and Gudrunstraße. Kreta is undergoing change, with the former Siemens grounds set to become a new district through the “Am Kempelenpark” project.
However, Kreta is an island. A divided island. It is cut through by the tracks of the East Railway and the Gudrunstraße, which runs in a sunken position.
The goal of the design is to think ahead for the area. After analyzing the existing structures, an approach should be developed to connect Kreta and the newly planned urban development area “Am Kempelenpark” with the surrounding urban space. The focus will be on hybrid (building) structures and non-commercial zones that can have a socially positive impact within the neighborhood.
