vortrag im rahmen der HB2 Media Lab Lecture Series 2011: Method / Perception / Vision
For over a decade, I design all of my films in the darkroom. Instead of filming with a camera, found footage is laid directly on unexposed film and afterwards exposed manually using different light sources such as flashlights and laser pointers. Of course, this extremely manual production process translates to the pictures itself. This means that you can see at the movies that they have been produced manually. In this lecture the 'how' and it's 'why' shall be explained by analysing my film 'Instructions for a Light and Sound Machine' (2005) - as my artistic response to the inevitable disappearance of analogue cinematography.
